This SFP (Small Form-factor Plug-in, mini-GBIC)
transceiver supports one 1000BASE-LX connection. This SFP transceiver can be
used to populate the 24 ports in a 3Com Switch 4070 (3C17707) or the 4 ports
in a 3Com Switch 3824 (3C17400) or Switch 3812 (3C17401), and can be mixed
and matched with other SFP transceivers to provide exceptional media

- 3Com’s family of SFP (Small
Formfactor Pluggable) transceivers are industry-standard,
hot-swappable devices that plug into a Gigabit Ethernet port,
linking it with either a fiber- or copper-based network. With the
ability to intermix different media types of SFPs on a single switch,
these SFPs provide flexibility and gigabit performance in a small
form factor.
- Compliant with the Small
Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) Transceiver Multisource Agreement
(MSA) and
802.3z, 3Com SFPs provide full interoperability when connected
to other standards-based products.
- Due to its small design, SFPs
allow for higher port densities than with other transceivers,
allowing multiple
devices to more easily interconnect with a single 2RU unit such as
the 3Com Switch 4070, for high density
at an affordable price.
- Add Gigabit connections, in the
number and type, as needed (within limits of the applicable
switch).
- SFPs can be hot-swapped, providing
additional resilience when used in conjunction with the inherent
hardware resiliency of 3Com products such as the 3Com Switch 4070,
or the 3Com Switch 7700 20-port 1000BASEX Module. Intuitive
squeeze-and-pull mechanism to remove the SFP from the port makes it
easy to install and remove. Rather than replacing an entire circuit
board containing several soldered-in modules, individual SFPs can be
unplugged and replaced for repair or upgrading, with cost savings
both in maintenance and in upgrading efforts.
