Marketing Information

The HT-180 Handshake Tester is a portable field interoperability tester for HDMI systems. The device leverages Quantum Data’s HDCP and EDID expertise gained through the development of industry compliance test tools. With the advent of affordable high definition displays and sources as well as 8-channel 192 kHz sound systems, consumers are switching to HDMI & DVI uncompressed digital A/V interfaces en masse. Why? Because in many cases these interfaces are the only means to obtain protected content and to maintain pristine quality across long signal chains. But there’s a hitch. HDMI & DVI have a companion high-definition content protection (HDCP) system that sometimes leaves consumers in mute, watching a blank screen, blinking video, or snow while being held hostage by a bug known as the “HDCP handshake problem”. As HDCP and EDID related handshake problems arise in the field the HT-180 can be used to identify the most likely devices causing the failure as well as eliminating others from consideration.

Hook up is simple, you can connect up to three (3) devices—a source, repeater (or AVR), and display—to the HT-180 during operation. Once connected, the HT-180 begins examining the 5V pin, hot plug detect, and the I2C bus for anomalous conditions. Such conditions are indicated by specific reason codes. Various configurations
can be applied such as substituting known-good equipment for suspect equipment, looping out repeater devices to confirm an initial diagnosis or to gain additional insights about a failure.

Specifications

A PC utility is provided to assist field technicians in gathering customer site and configu¬ration information. This utility is essential for providing the configuration information to associate with a set of reason codes or trace files when further examination is required in the laboratory.

The HT-180 provides real time status with reason codes as various device configurations are tested and as events such as hot plugs, standby, power cycles are initiated. The reason codes are supplemented by trace file collections using the Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA). The ACA is a protocol analyzer for the I2C bus. HDCP, EDID and hot plug transactions are monitored and logged to a user-friendly interface which provides detailed timing and data information (below). The transactions logged to the ACA can be examined on site or at a later point in the laboratory to confirm an initial diagnosis. The trace files can be shared through electronic exchange with other members of your field engineering team or with outside consultants.
