Designed to give users access to the most
advanced satellite navigation technology available, the GPS 1000 DLX 12-channel
receiver offers a host of sophisticated features and capabilities. The
unit's exclusive Accelerated Satellite Acquisition Protocol II technology (ASAP
II) gets you up and running up to twice as fast as other recreational GPS
receivers and provides superior reception in urban areas, canyons, and dense
foliage. The receiver is also compatible with the Wide Area Augmentation
System (WAAS), which was originally implemented by the FAA to provide
improved GPS navigation for aircraft. The WAAS system consists of 25 ground-based
transmitters located throughout the U.S. The precise location of each
transmitter is maintained, and each location is compared to GPS distance
measurements. Corrections are uplinked and broadcast via satellite. WAAS-compatible
GPS units receive this extra satellite signal, which provides accuracy
within as little as 3 meters. |
