Secure Data Archival using standardized
hardware
point Archiver is a Windows Server application designed to provide a
secure and cost effective process to identify, monitor and archive
relevant data in a network. The content of defined network folders is
monitored by point Archiver. Files contained within these monitored
folders are classified for migration to the archive based upon defined
filters, which can be configured according to individual needs. point
Archiver periodically monitors these network folders and copies or moves
files to removable optical media according to the defined filters.
Migration of the filtered files and directories to optical media is
performed without any user interaction using robotically-controlled CD/DVD/BD
publishing systems for recording and label printing. During the
migration process, all significant information is stored in a database.
If a specific file version has to be retrieved from the archive, a
database query identifies the required media. Individual files,
directories or complete archives can be copied back to hard disk. point
Archiver can check the integrity of archived files and verify if a
medium or file was manipulated. This assures the trustworthiness of the
archive and its documents. point Archiver provides companies,
organizations and agencies with the security and authenticity of
information which is required to fulfil the constantly rising number of
compliance regulations.
Tiered Archiving
The PoINT Tiered Archive File System (PoINT TAFS) provides a storage
hierarchy using a variety of technologies. This architecture provides a
solution to overcome the individual limitation of a specific technology.
The user has a wide variety of options to define the level of security
and select the combination of hardware and technologies to be used.
Possible configurations vary from a simple USB hard disk as simple
archive device to a mirrored volume set in a jukebox with additional
replication by a CD/DVD/BD production system.
Data Security
In order to recognize possible manipulations of the archived data,
digital fingerprints of the files and of the complete medium are encoded
and stored on the media itself and also in the database. Thus any
individual archive medium can be examined for consistency and compared
with the database records. Additionally the files in the origin folder
can be compared with the database or with the archived files. Documents
which have been deleted or changed are identified and reported to the
administrator. An optional encryption module further protects the entire
file system, preventing external access to the archived data. The
combination of a system key and different archive keys makes the files
illegible outside of the specific point Archiver installation. This
combines the advantages of removable media with the security
characteristics of closed systems.
Archive
The point Archiver periodically monitors network folders and copies or
moves files to removable optical media according to defined filters. In
situations where files are not moved and therefore not deleted from the
origin folder, configurable criteria can be defined (e.g. date, archive
bit, file contents) to identify and archive different versions of the
same named file. Search and Retrieve
point Archiver’s displays by the “Directory Tree” the structure of the
archived data in a view similar to the Windows Explorer. The file
information (e.g. name, size, date of preparation) and the name of the
corresponding archive medium can be queried for each stored file version.
During the retrieval process of a file, a directory or a complete
archive, the point Archiver generates a list of all necessary media and
requests the user to insert these into the publishing system. Only the
requested files are automatically copied into the selected target
directory.
Protection of your investment
The point Archiver supports standardized, durable and economical optical
drives and media (CD, DVD and BD). The user can check already produced
archive media in oder to control the quality and create multiple copies
if necessary. If the standardized UDF file system is used, the data can
also be accessed in single drives under virtually every operating system
(Windows, Linux, UNIX, Mac OSX). |
