The Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology allows you to filter out unnecessary distant weather and non-weather broadcasts and, instead, monitor only your local area! This advanced feature picks up alerts from the National Weather Service for over 3500 counties in the country, yet allows you to filter only those messages applicable for your county. 7 NOAA (National oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) channels give you continuous local and regional weather broadcasting. You will have 24/7 access to alerts ranging from flash floods to tornado warnings to national emergencies. The T9580R SAME has a Motorola exclusive feature called "companding" that filters out the static between words, allowing the radio to deliver noticeably clearer transmissions.
