This Sony DVD Recorder has no TV tuner. It is designed to record directly off the Output from your Cable-TV or Satellite-TV receiver. It can also be used to dub recordings from other components onto various DVD recordable Disc formats. It is not ready for HDTV as this DVD recorder and player records and plays in 480i and 480p modes. An HDMI output, however, enables the RDR-GX257 to play DVDs to your widescreen HDTV delivering sharp imagery on screens optimized for 1080 resolutions, in an Upconversion mode.

  • Line Input Recording (non-tuner) lets you record your favorite television programs from a cable or satellite set-top box.

  • One Touch Dubbing allows you to burn and enjoy your photos and home video from compatible USB or i.LINK®-based digital cameras and camcorders.

  • BRAVIA® Sync™ for Theatre technology utilizes the industry-standard HDMI™ CEC function to provide one button access and control of the appropriate inputs for your BRAVIA HDTV and HDMI-connected A/V components.

  • Multi-Format DVD compatibility provides a high level of compatibility with DVD players and recorders.

  • Digital music and digital image playback capability lets you listen to MP3 encoded audio files or view JPEG images encoded on CD or DVD media.

  • Set Top Box Controller (IR Blaster) controls the channel functions of most cable set-top boxes or satellite receivers for timer recording.
