How it works
The Track Stick receives signals from twenty four satellites orbiting
the earth. With this information, the Track Stick can precisely
calculate its own position anywhere on the planet to within fifteen
meters. Just make sure no metal blocks the Track Stick from seeing the
satellites in the sky (Requirement for all GPS) GPS Signal cannot get
through metal. Then once you have the information collected, plug it
into the USB port of your computer and download your information.

Frequently Asked Questions |
|
How long do
the batteries last?
The batteries last 24 hours in full power mode and 5-7 days in low power
mode. This is the longest battery life on the market for any similar
product.
If the
batteries will last 5 -7 days, how do I make them last that long?
Press the button so that the red LED flashes fast and then blinks every
second. Place the Track Stick outside, with a clear view of the sky for
fifteen minutes (make sure the embossed globe faces up on the Track
Stick). After a few minutes, the green LED will illuminate. Wait at
least fifteen more minutes once this happens.
Once the green LED has been on for fifteen minutes, press the button so
that the green LED flashes rapidly. You will now see that the red LED
flashes once every 15 seconds and the green LED flash for a brief
moment. The Track Stick is now in the low power mode. In order to get at
least 5 days of operation, the Track Stick must have a clear,
unobstructed view of the sky during that entire time.
Where is
the best location to place the Track Stick in a vehicle?
GPS Signal cannot go thru metal so you have to be creative when putting
the TrackStick in a vehicle. The best locations are in the front or rear
dashboards with the embossed globe facing the sky is the best spot where
the GPS can see the sky and have a direct line of sight to the
satellites. If you want to be covert we suggest putting the TrackStick
(because it is small enough) in a magazine, stuffed animal, tissue box
or umbrella. Then put it in the rear/front dashboard. Plastic, glass,
cardboard for example will not block the signal. ONLY METAL. We have had
success in getting a signal inside a glove box or under the dash without
any metal between it and the sky, but the glove box has to be up toward
the front of the windshield so it can see out the windshield. Finally,
you can put the TrackStick inside of a Plastic Bumper the signal will go
thru plastic, attach it with some Industrial Strength Velcro. Just
remember the TrackStick is not waterproof only water resistant so you
will have to make sure it won’t be raining, or the bumper will not let
water get in that area, or just put it in a plastic zip-lock first.
Some customers
have reported the Track Stick works fine under or between the car’s
front seats but it is not recommended for reliable operation.
How do I
turn the Track Stick’s power off?
Under the “device properties” menu, make sure the “power down device” is
checked. If it is checked, pressing the button on the Track Stick so the
both the green and red LED flash fast will power down the Track Stick.
What are
the sensitivity adjustments on the device properties screen?
Motion: The motion setting is simply an invisible fence that the Track
Stick uses as a reference to know when it is in motion. Increasing this
area will make the Track Stick record less locations. Decreasing it will
cause the Track Stick to record locations closer together.
GPS Wobble: This is used to adjust the sensitivity to motion when the
Track Stick is not moving. Increasing this setting will delay the Track
Stick response time when a person or vehicle begins to move again.
Will
changing the recording interval save battery life?
The record interval is adjustable to anything in between 1 and 15
minutes. This is used to save memory and will not extend battery life.
How much
data will the Track Stick hold?
The Track Stick can record 4000 records with Date, Time, Longitude,
Latitude, Speed, Direction, Altitude and other information. When the
Track Stick is not moving, memory is not used. The Track Stick can
record months of travel history under normal use.
Why cant I
plug the Track Stick in to the vehicles power?
The Track Stick is a “personal” location recorder and intended to be
used in different vehicles and in different locations. It was not
designed to be permanently installed in a vehicle.
How do I
map all the Track Stick locations shown on the Track Stick manager?
Once you have installed Google Earth, open Google Earth, then simply hit
the “Export to Google Earth” button at the top of the screen on the
Trackstick Manager Software. “Pushpins” can be used for individual
locations, “fly by” will show traveled routes.
Does the
Track Stick make travel reports?
The Track Stick was designed to show all information on high resolution
maps. Use the “export to html” feature to create a graphical report of
location histories.
When I
download the Track Stick history, the download bar and program freeze?
The Track Stick manager and Google Earth are high resolution programs
and require a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 or higher. Readjust you
computers screen resolution to these higher settings. Google Earth and
the Track Stick Manager will not work in 800 X 600 screen resolution. |
